Laura Giammatteo

Dear All, I would like you to know that I have a wide experience working as a teacher. At the beginning of my teaching career I worked at St. Peter's school for several years teaching English Language to Students in primary school. After that I worked at Northlands as a teacher for 3 months in the International Department and was offered the Direction of the Department later on, becoming Head of International Department. As I was there teaching Spanish and I had the possibility of working at Lincoln; The International American School of Buenos Aires, teaching the four subject areas in English, I changed the following year (you can see my resume for dates). I have worked at Lincoln for 12 years since, teaching all subject areas, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies in English in grade 4. I have a wide experience in Curriculum writing following the American Standards, as well as IGCSE, AS and IB programs to teach at secondary school levels. While working at Lincoln, I was Team Leader for about 6 years. This position implied coordinating meetings with heads and with teachers to pass information discussed at meetings and follow up strategies or tasks to be applied in school. It also implied communicating with Heads to inform about teachers position with reference to decisions taken. Ordering material and making lists of books and resources was also part of the job. I have a lot of experience in technology that can be applied following what is done in class. I specialize in differentiating instruction in the classroom to cater for all needs, low achievers and highly capable as Lincoln's students came from different areas of USA as well as Canada and Europe or Australia with different expectations and levels. Since 2006 I have worked as Language and Literature Teacher in secondary schools for IGCSE and As. I have been teaching IB for some years now and I am currently finishing my postgraduate course in Education at Di Tella University with the intention of completing an MA. I am working on my thesis on: Professional Learning Communities and how their implementation favours Professional Learning.
I have done and do research connected with educational aspects of teaching and learning which I have offered at the different AASSA Events (Association of American Schools in South America, AMISA today) in Ecuador, Peru, Chile Brazil and Argentina. I am presenting my research work to teachers working in the most prestigious schools in Argentina.
I have studied Simultaneous Interpretation at Lucille Barnes for a year.
